Metabolism is transformation of all those calories (food & drinks we consume) into energy. Metabolic rate depends on your gender, age, physical activity and many other factors. But there are some ways to boost it!

  1. Have enough sleep. Researchers have found that lack of sleep seriously slows down your metabolism.
  2. Try HIIT (High Intensity Interval Workout). These kind of physical activity (i.e., interval runs or Tabata training) makes your body burn calories much more effectively not only during workout but long time after it's over.

  3. Don't skip breakfast. Studies show that a nutritious breakfast (not just coffee!) is a good quick-start for your metabolism.

  4. Drink more water. Drinking enough water (at least 1.5 litres per day) is a simple way to speed up digestion and burn calories. Just don't forget to drink it little by little during the day (and not 1 litre at a time).

  5. Go for weight training. This iron will help you to get more lean tissue, and muscles burn much more calories than fat. Lifting itself also speeds up your metabolic rate and it stays more effective long after you leave the weight room.

  6. Drink green tea. It speeds up metabolism as well. Moreover, green tea has an antioxidant effect and is naturally calorie-free.

  7. Enjoy spicy food. Some pepper or ginger will give your metabolism a serious boost.

  8. Have some caffeine in the morning. A cup of coffee is absorbed into the blood stream very quickly and provides a serious metabolic boost for several hours. Just don't have too much coffee during the day, as caffeine dehydrates your body!
